Entry 522 • Seder Tannaim v'Amoraim

Rabbi Elazar ben Yossi ben Chalafta went to Alexandria, as it is stated in the section, and to Rome with Rabbi Shimon [to annul the decree, and Rabbi Yossi did not want to allow his son to go with Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, lest they be punished on the way, until he vowed to him that they would not be punished (Rashi wrote that they were punished and he fell ill with a fever, and when he remembered the vow he made to his father, he prayed for mercy, and the fever left him and went to the mouth of that sailor). And when they arrived there, a miracle occurred, and a demon named Ben Talmyon entered the daughter of the king, and Rabbi Elazar ben Rabbi Yossi healed her, and they brought him into the king's treasury to take whatever he wanted, but he did not want to take anything except for the decree against Israel, which he tore up, and there he saw the vessels of the Holy Temple and the curtain, which had drops of blood from the bull and the goat of Yom Kippur, and he saw the tzitz. (Me'ilah 17b, Yoma 57a, and Rashi, and Sukkah 5a, I have seen in Rome), and in Niddah, in the chapter of the one who sees, it is written that he ruled in Rome. [In Yoma (67a), Rabbi Yossi said to me, Elazar my son, Rashi explained in a joking manner, regarding the words.

Rabbi Yossi says, Elazar my son says in Pesachim (117a). Rabbi Elazar ben Rabbi Yossi, in the name of Rabbi Yossi of Dromska, who said in the name of Rabbi Yochanan ben Nuri, who said in the name of Rabbi Elazar the Great, in Kiddushin (39a). And in the Tosefta of Orlah, in the name of Rabbi Yossi of Dromska, who said in the name of Rabbi Yochanan ben Nuri, who said in the name of Rabbi Elazar the Great.

And he was in Yavneh with Rabbi Yehuda ben Ilai, and Rabbi Yossi ben Yehuda from there, Rabbi Zechariah ben the butcher. And the lineage forgot to mention him in the order of the Tanaim, and the Tana of the Beraita only brought him [in the Seder HaDorot] in the memory of the sons of Rabbi Yossi. In the name of Rabbi Chanania ben Rabbi Abahu, and there is a question there]:
