Rabbi Elazar ben Yehuda, man of the village of Bartota [(Chapter 3 of Avot)]. He was a student of Rabbi Yehoshua [(Tavul Yom, Chapter 3, Mishnah 4)]. And in the first chapter of Pesachim [(13a)], it is stated that the law is in accordance with Rabbi Yehoshua. [And in Bechorot (57a), it is mentioned that he was the son of Rabbi Yehuda, a student of Rabbi Yehoshua, etc. Rabbi Eliezer said, "I heard, etc."].

And in the first chapter of Orlah [(Mishnah 4)], Rabbi Shimon ben Gamliel said in his name. [And the Rambam wrote that he is only mentioned in the first chapter of Orlah. Chalah (Hilchot Chalah). Rabbi Shmuel ben Avraham in his name. Ohalot (48).

Zavim (Kelim 112)]. And his piety and the miracle that occurred to him, that his entire house was filled with wheat, and all the collectors of charity were fleeing from him because he would give away all that he had, all this is found in the chapter on the order of fasts [(24a)]. In Yuchsin [at the end of Seder HaDoros], it appears there that he was not ordained, and indeed in all the aforementioned places, Rabbi Elazar is referred to as such.

The village of Bartota is where he is buried (Geonim of Israel).
