Rabbi Eleazar ben Matya in the tenth chapter of Yevamot [Mishnah 3 (92a) and Rav said, "He intended to expound on 'marganitah' and expounded on 'chaspa'" (there 94a)] is one of the four sages of Yavneh: Ben Azzai, Ben Zoma, and Hananiah ben Hakinai [(there)]. And in the first chapter of Kiddushin [(32a)] in a Baraita regarding the honor of father and mother, [(and in Pesachim 79b)] and in Tosefta 6 of Pesachim he disagrees with Rabbi Yehuda, and in the second chapter of Sotah [Rabbi Yehuda ben Beteira says in the name of Rabbi Eleazar ben Matya].
Rabbi Yehuda says in his name. [And in the seventh chapter of Sotah (34a)] and in the eighth chapter in Tosefta, Rabbi Eleazar ben Matya, and Abba Halfta, and Hananiah ben Hakinai weighed the stones of Joshua. [And in Ma'aser Sheni 2:2 in the Jerusalem Talmud, these are the ones who judge: Ben Azzai and Ben Zoma, these are the students: Rabbi Eleazar ben Matya and Rabbi Chiya ben Hakinai. And the genealogies are written [in Seder HaDorot] it appears that he is the son of Matya the son of Chares]:
