ר' אלעזר בן פרטא

Entry 506 • Seder Tannaim v'Amoraim

Rabbi Elazar ben Parta [the grandson of Rabbi Elazar ben Parta (see above Rabbi Parta), there was an incident that occurred before Rabbi, and he wished to act according to the opinion of the Rabbis. Rabbi Elazar ben Parta, the grandson of Rabbi Elazar ben Parta, said to him, "Did your elder not teach me thus?" He replied, "Yes," and he acted according to the opinion of Rabbi Shimon ben Gamliel. This is found in the Jerusalem Talmud, Megillah, chapter 4, end of halacha 4, and in Ketubot, chapter 11, halacha 6.

And in Sanhedrin, chapter 1, halacha 2, he acted according to Rabbi Gamliel. It is correct as stated in Megillah and Ketubot, for Rabbi Gamliel of Yavneh is the grandfather of Rabbi, since Rabbi Shimon ben Gamliel is the father of Rabbi.

Therefore, it is justified what is mentioned in the aforementioned genealogy that he was a colleague of Rabbi, even though from the language of the Jerusalem Talmud it seems that Rabbi was his teacher, as he said, "Did your elder not teach me thus?" However, in Sukkah (39a), he disagrees with Rabbi.]
