Rab Acha bar Rav [Menachot (3b)] is the father of the father of Rav Mesharshiya, as stated in [Avodah Zarah (1)]. And the Rosh wrote that he is a colleague of our holy Rabbi [(it is a typo and should be Ravina the ancient, and regarding Rav Acha bar Natan, the genealogy is written)]. Rav Acha bar Natan and Mar Zutra bar Rav Mari said to Ravina, and he is his grandfather, namely Rav Acha, the father of the father of Rav Mesharshiya, who was in the time of Rava, as it is stated in Perek Tana'im, and similarly in Perek HaNisrafim, the Rosh wrote that Rav Mesharshiya was a student of Rava and the grandson of Rav Acha, and Rav Acha bar Pligta of the ancient Ravina [thus far].
And see Perek Tana'im (Menachot 49a). In the case of a lung, where the hands of the slaughterer are involved, do we hang it or not? Rav Acha bar Natan said we hang it, Mar Zutra the son of Rav Mari said we do not hang it. Rav Mesharshiya said in accordance with the opinion of his father’s father, it is reasonable (Rashi explains Rav Acha) that we hang it for a wolf.
And in the Asheri, the version is Rav Acha bar Rava, and in the Rif, the version is Rav Acha bar Yaakov, and see in the Asheri Perek HaNisrafim that Ravina obligates Rav Acha bar Rav to exempt, etc. Rav Mesharshiya said, “What is the reason?” of his father’s father. And it seems to me that the Ravina here is not the same as the Ravina who was in the days of Rav Ashi. And the Rav Acha here is not Rav Acha bar Pligta of Ravina in every respect, but was an ancient one, the son of Rav, the father of the father of Rav Mesharshiya, who was a student of Rav, and both were ancient Amoraim [thus far]. (See above, Ravina the ancient) and see how the genealogy is mistaken, for it should be Rav Acha bar Rav and that he was a student of Rav, as it should be in the Gemara and in the Asheri Perek Tana'im and in the Alfasi.
And regarding what the genealogy states that they said to Ravina, this is not mentioned in Perek Tana'im, but we find it in other places, each one said to Ravina, and you will not find in the entire Shas Rav Acha bar Natan, and in Perek Tana'im it is a typo, only Mar Zutra bar Rav Mari we find that he said to Ravina, and he did well to give Rav Acha bar Natan a separate generation, for his memory is found only in Perek Tana'im, and the truth is that it is a typo. (And see above, the father of the father of Rav). And in Eruvin (6b) Rav Achi the son of Rav should be Acha.
Rav Acha bar Rav sent to Ravina, he sent him a donkey, saying to you, “This is what Rabbi Huna bar Rabbi Yehoshua said.”
