Abutalmus, in the third chapter of Eruvin [Mishnah 4 (35a)], Rabbi Yosi testified that Abutalmus testified in the name of the five elders that a doubtful Eruv is valid. And in the first chapter of Rosh Hashanah [(15a) and Sukkah (40a)], Rabbi Yosi testified that Abutalmus testified in the name of the five elders regarding a different etrog for the tithe. And at the end of Sotah [(49)] and at the end of the chapter of Merubah [(3:1)], Abutal son of Reuven was permitted to speak before the king because he was close to the monarchy.
And I saw in Me'ilah that Reuven the Itztrabuli was permitted to speak, perhaps he is his father [(see there)]. And in Me'ilah, before Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and Rabbi Eliezer the son of Rabbi Yosi came to Rome, the decree was nullified, and he was close to the monarchy, and I did not strike him because he was a Jew. And when they recognized him, the decree returned until Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai came and nullified it.
And in the Beraita, there is a Tanna, Rabbi Yonatan, who was the teacher of Rabbi Yosi, and there is a version of Abshulim or Abutalmus. Others say he is the son of Abutalmus [(and in Mechilta, Parashat Mishpatim (Section 3), it is stated: son of Abutalmus). Rabbi Natan son of Abutalmus, Rabbi Shimon son of Abutalmus].
