Rav Hai Gaon died in 4797 [(in the last Yom Tov of Pesach, one thousand three hundred and nine (it should read three hundred and ten) in contracts, which was year 4798. Yuchsin in the order of the Geonim and the later generations and in Seder HaKabbalah of the Rema). And see above year 4945 that he died in year 4808.] And according to the opinion of the Rashbash that the beginning of the days of the Geonim was from year 4347, the days of their leadership lasted 448 years.

Chizkiya ben David ben Zakkai [(and in Yuchsin in the generations of the Geonim and in Seder HaKabbalah of the Rema, the grandson of David ben Zakkai)] the members of the yeshiva of Rav Hai established him as Reish Galuta and seated him on the throne of Rav Hai, and he stood for two years. His two sons fled to Spain to Rav Yosef bar Rav Shmuel HaNagid, and from them descended many great men in Spain. And in the exile of Spain some of them went to the lands of Turkey and there are those who come from their seed.
