**Hordos** died in the 37th year of his reign, year 3761 (at age 70 [Sha'ar HaDorot 25]). At the beginning of his reign he was a man of violence and deceit, and easy to accept slander, and because of this he shed innocent blood. But he repented of his deeds and gave himself over to good qualities and did great good for Israel, loving the sages and honoring them. And he gave them provisions and sustenance, and he established Nesi'im from the house of David - Hillel and his sons.
And Israel found rest in his days, and his sons and grandsons reigned until the destruction of the Temple. And 5 days before his death he commanded to kill his son Antipater because of his evil deeds, and because he heard that he had killed his brothers and that Arkilos his son should reign in his lifetime [(Tzeda). And see Josephus chapter 60].
