**Hoshea** son of Elah rebelled against the king of Ashur Shalmaneser in the 12th year of Achaz king of Yehudah, year 3195. Even though it was the eighth year from the beginning of his reign [(see year 187)], nevertheless Scripture counted the beginning of his reign from this year, as it says [(Melachim II 17)] "In the 12th year of Achaz, Hoshea became king for 9 years" [(and chapter 18)] "In the 6th year of Chizkiyahu, which was the 9th of Hoshea." And they said in Seder Olam [(chapter 22)]: "In the 9th year of his rebellion," and from year 3195 until the 6th year of Chizkiyahu, which was year 205, Scripture counted 9 complete years, and the first 8 years he was only like a judge [(see year 187)] [(Tzeda)].
