Abraham married Sarah at age 25, year 1973. [It says in Yalkut Lech Lecha (section 78) and Tanchuma Derush 18 that Abraham and Sarah were barren for 75 years. The Zohar writes that thus he married at age 25. See Zikukin D'Nura, article 314, what he says about this and the text says 76 years. And see year 1998 - it appears that at age 50 he married Sarah, so they were barren 50 years].
Year 1973 of the Jewish calendar.
And King Nimrod ruled in security, and all the earth was under his hand, and all the earth was of one language and of one speech. All the ministers of Nimrod and all his great ones - Put and Egypt and Canaan according to their families - consulted and said to one another: "Come, let us build for ourselves a city and in it a fortified tower, high and strong, with its top in the heavens, and let us make for ourselves a name so that we may rule over all the world.
The hearts of our enemies will fear us, and we shall rule over them by force." The king heard about this and they gathered about 600,000 men and they searched and found one valley east of the land of Shinar, a two-day journey, and they all traveled and settled there and began to make bricks. The builders rebelled against Hashem and planned to fight Him and ascend to heaven. They divided into three parts: one group said let us ascend to heaven and fight Him; the second said let us ascend and dwell there and place our gods there and serve them; the third said let us ascend to heaven and strike Him with bows and spears.
They built for themselves a great city and a tower in it, very high and strong, and because of its great height the materials and bricks did not reach the builders until a full year had passed. There were those ascending and those descending. When a brick fell from their hands and broke, they all wept over it, but when a person fell and died, none of them looked at him, etc. They shot arrows at the heavens and the arrows fell back on them full of blood and they said: "Behold, we have killed all who are in heaven," for this was from Hashem to lead them astray.
They built thus for many days and years. God said to the 70 angels standing first before Him: "Come, let us descend and confuse their language." From that day on each forgot his neighbor's language, and when a builder received from his neighbor mortar or a stone that was not what he asked for, the builder would throw it from his hand and drop it on his neighbor and kill him, and many died from them.
Hashem struck two of the groups: those who said let us ascend to heaven and serve our gods became apes and similar creatures; those who said let us strike heaven with arrows, Hashem killed each man by his neighbor; and the third who said let us ascend to heaven and fight Him, Hashem scattered them, etc. They stopped building, etc., and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed a third of the tower, and fire came down from heaven and burned another third, and a third remains to this day.
Its shadow extends for a three-day journey [(it is written in Beit Yisrael)] that it was almost as high as a Shabbat boundary and its width was 640 klapotir, and each brick was 3 spans long and one span wide and thick. From the top of the tower one could see 20 parasangs [etc.]. Many died in that tower without number. At that time Peles died [(Sefer HaYashar)].
Noah and Abraham and Shem helped in the building of the tower [(Raavad, Parshat Noach)].
They say that with the birth of Peleg [which means division], when there was the story with the tower, the languages were differentiated. And as a sign of this, his father, Eber, gave him this name. And there is a Christian who wrote that the angels came down from the heavens to inform the heads of each nation of their particular language.
However, the holy tongue is not the portion of any angel but rather the portion of God. And you can find something about this in the Jerusalem Targum on the verse: _And the Lord scattered them_ (Genesis 11:8).
They say that after the division of languages, Hashem created different creatures, some with two heads and serving each other. In the regions of Scythia there are people who have only one eye in the forehead. In India there are people who have no mouth to eat and drink. In the mountains of India there is a kind of human that has a tail and no thought at all.
There are those with the body of a horse and the head of a deer, and some have a horn on their forehead that shines greatly. There is a kind of human with two rows of teeth and a human head and a lion's body. There is a kind of human that has only one leg and his foot is wide and they run very fast. There are those who have no neck and their eyes are on their chest.
There are those whose body is full of hair and their teeth are like a dog's. In Scythia there is a kind that has human form but their legs are like a horse's and they are called Satyrs. There are those who in summer turn into wolf form and in winter return to human form, and they worship the constellation Medim and offer human sacrifices before it. In Libya there are people who cannot bear the sight of light and do not eat any living creature.
There are people who do not walk on their feet but put their head between their thighs and walk. In Germania there are those who only eat in French language and wear animal skins. In Ethiopia there are those who have no nostrils, and there are those who have no ear, and there are those who have no mouth but only a small hole and drink with a straw. In regions west of here there are those whose ears are so large they cover the whole body.
In regions of Arabia there are very small people whose women give birth at age 5 and at age 8 they are old, and they have great wars with a species of birds that kills many of them. In Ethiopia there is a kind of human that stands in caves and does not eat but snakes, and has no speech but a screaming voice. Their sages say that all who have human form came from the loins of Adam HaRishon [(Shir HaKallah etc.) See Yalkut Reuven Bereishit (3, 75) in the name of Chesed Avraham (and page 66) in the name of Sefer that there are 365 kinds of creatures].
