Entry 877 • Seder Tannaim v'Amoraim

Ganiva was in the time of Rav when he was going to his house. [Rav encountered Ganiva, and Rabbi Yirmiya bar Abba was praying behind Rav, blessings (Berakhot 27a).] In the name of Rabbi [(there is a textual error, it should be in the name of Rav). And Rav Yosef said that the master permitted Ganiva blessings (Berakhot 25a). In the name of Rav, idolatry (Avodah Zarah 36b). Ravina said that Ganiva said in the name of Rav (Chulin 44a) and there (Niddah 50b) Rabbi Abina said that Ganiva said, etc.].

And in the chapter of damages, he said laws in the name of Rav, and he gave a double greeting to the sages like to a king. Ganiva said that Rav Asi [(Chulin 50b)] and Rabbi Chiya bar Abba said to me, I explain in the name of Naniva [(there)]. And he was arguing with Mar Ukva and pressing him, and Mar Ukva sent to Rabbi Eliezer that he had the power to hand him over to the kingdom, and he wrote to him, "Be silent before HaShem, and He will strike them down, slain, slain," and immediately they gave Ganiva a noose [first chapter of Gittin (7a)].

And in the chapter of the accepted [(there is a textual error, it should be "the one who says")] in Gittin [(65b)] that Ganiva went out to the noose to be executed by the kingdom and gave ten zuz to Rabbi Abina [(see there)]. In the chapter of damages [(Sof 2a)] Rav Huna and Rav Yehuda [(it should be Rav Chisda, and so it is in Shas Chada)] were sitting, and Ganiva said to one of his friends, "Let us arise before the matter of the Torah," and he said to him, "Before the half, let us arise." Rashi explains that he disagrees with the words of the sages who were causing distress to Mar Ukva, who was the head of the court.

And in the chapter of all the get [(31b)] Rabbi Hoshaya and Rabbi Chiya were sitting and Ganiva exchanged words [(and said thus, Rabbi Chanan bar Rava said)]. And in the Midrash Kohelet in the chapter when he came out from his mother's womb, Ganiva said to the fox that found a fenced vineyard, etc. [Ada in B'Ch Ganiva in the name of Rav]:
