Rabbi Bena'ah [as stated in Taanit (7a)] was the teacher of Rabbi Yochanan. Rabbi Yochanan said, Rabbi Bena'ah [as found in Gittin (60a). Rabbi Yochanan said in the name of Rabbi Bena'ah, as referenced in Avodah Zarah (1:2), Yevamot (1a), and Zevachim (67a, 118a)]. Rabbi Yochanan asked Rabbi Bena'ah [in Bava Batra (57b)].
He was a great sage, a judge, and one who understood secrets and parables, and he pointed out the cave of Adam HaRishon and the cave of Avraham and Eliezer stood at the entrance [(there, 58a)]. And the Tosafot wrote that the souls have permission, if they wish, to descend here even after twelve months. [And it is mentioned in the Sifrei, Parashat Devarim, several times. Rabbi B said Rabbi Yossi bar Chanina says (there, at the beginning of Devarim) above Rabbi Bizna bar Zivda.
Rabbi Biran in the name of an elder, and he is Rabbi Bena'ah. Rabbi Bena'ah was a reincarnation of Benaiah ben Jehoiada (Maggid Mishneh, Hilchot Teshuvah 2). And see Vayakhel Moshe (Mishnah 47b). And why did Rabbi Yochanan ask him about the cloak and tallit of a Torah scholar?]:
