Betti ben Tavi, I did not bring here [(i.e., because he was not a sage)] except to explain who he is [(see Avodah Zarah 39)]. According to Rashi, it implies that he is a Jew, while according to Tosafot, he is a Canaanite slave, as stated at the end of Avodah Zarah [(56b)]. And there is mentioned the incident with [(the Master)] Rabbi Yehuda before King Shvur, and in the chapter of Ten Genealogies [(see 2b)] regarding arrogance, he did not take a bill of freedom [Jerusalem Talmud, Gittin, Chapter 1, Halacha 6].
