אלעזר זעירא

Entry 537 • Seder Tannaim v'Amoraim

Elazar the Minor was concluding his lesson in the marketplace of Nehardea when he encountered the house of the Exilarch. He said to him, "Do you consider it appropriate to mourn for Jerusalem?" And there was Shmuel and his court in the chapter of the one who enters [(Nedarim 59b), and see there. And regarding the lineage, it is written that they sought Rish Lakish to see if it was important to take this lineage; it is a mistake, meaning in the place of Rabban Gamliel].

And there it is also mentioned that Rabbi Ami and Rabbi Asi were before Rabbi Yitzchak Nappacha. [This is noted (Shabbat 2) and has no connection to Elazar the Minor, and it is a mistake]. He was a great sage, and his student, the sage and pious Rabbi Abba bar Zimna [(see Mishnah Shabbat, for there is an error in his hand)].
