רב אידי

Entry 401 • Seder Tannaim v'Amoraim

Rabbi Idi, the father of Rabbi Yaakov, was called Bar Bi Rav. He would travel for three months on the way to the yeshiva of Rabbi Yochanan, learn for one day, and then return for three months. He would sit at home for one day, and the students would mock him. Rabbi Yochanan would say, "And me, they would inquire daily, as if one who engages in Torah for one day is as if he engaged for an entire year" [Perek Aleph of Chagigah (5b), as noted in Bar Yomi [in section Bet and in section Yod], and in Ein Yaakov, the explanation of Rabbi Idi, son of Rabbi Yaakov, son of Rabbi Idi].
