In the section of "HaDror" [(Seder Zeraim, Chapter 1)] Rabbi Chanina bar Ami said in the name of the teacher, and it appeared that he was a sage, or perhaps as stated in other places in the name of the Gemara.

However, Rashi explained that he heard from his teacher and his teacher from his teacher. [And in Erechin (28b), Rabbi Chiya bar Ami said in the name of Cholapna; it should be "Aulapna," and thus it is in the new Shas in the variant readings.]
