Rashi explains there that the term "father of Avu'ram" refers to Avu'ram himself, and they were familiar with the son but not with the father, and they called him by the name of his son, as they made a sign for him through his son. In the section on slaughtering [(38:1)], it is written in the genealogies in the name of the Aruch that Avu'ram was a wise man, but I did not find this in the Aruch.
