הלל הנשיא

Hillel the Nasi, son of Rabbi Yehuda the Nasi, established the intercalation according to the cycles of Rav Ada [(see there), and in the genealogies at the end he wrote a section regarding the ordination, when the decree was made that anyone who ordains shall be killed, and this Hillel stood with his court and the sages of Israel and the heads of the fathers and the elders who were in that generation and they founded for us a tradition and a transmission that was in their hands and established this correct and refined calculation that is transmitted to us from them for the determination of the new months and the sacred festivals of HaShem, and this was close to the end of the days of the sages of the Talmud, when the words of the sages of the Mishnah began, which was close to the building of the Second Temple, and until the book of the Mishnah was sealed in the days of our holy teacher, it was five hundred and thirty years, thus it is written]. And it was in the time of Rabbah and Abaye [(see there)] and so too Rabbi Shimon Duran wrote in his commentary on the warnings, and it was in the year 570 (for documents [which is 4,118 from creation, 430 for the destruction]).
