Rabbi Yosef Taitzak from the Spanish exiles was a leader in Thessaloniki in year 5283, and I have heard that he has responsa [(Sha'arei Kedusha 62b) printed with the responsa She'erit Yehudah, that is 5360, and he authored Lechem Setarim, a commentary on Daniel and the Five Megillot, and Porat Yosef on Ecclesiastes (see year 5296)]. Rabbi Meir ben Virga from the Spanish exiles lived many years in Turkey and afterwards in Naples in Italy, and they ordained him to teach [(Sha'arei Kedusha 62b)].

Rabbi Yosef bar Avraham ibn Zayit authored Sha'arei Tzedek in this generation [(there)]. Rabbi Binyamot Aksiliria [(so he signed in the responsa of Binyamin Ze'ev)], Rabbi Yosef Bovini of Venice [(Sha'arei Kedusha 64b)]. Rabbi Yosef Zarqa authored Rav Pe'alim on grammar [(there)]. Rabbi Mordechai Finzi authored a book on astronomy, births, and seasons [(there)].
