The Rabbi, Rabbi Yosef Kolon, a Frenchman called Maharik, led his presidency in Lombardy, and his students gathered his responsa and bound them together and made responsa in his name. It is written in the responsa Chacham Tzvi, section 129, that Maharik was the rabbi of Italy in the province of Savoy (see above year 5207).] Rabbi Yehudah called Misor Leon was in Mantua, he authored Sefer Nofet Tzufim and was a disputant of Maharik and the community was divided until the Duke of Mantua expelled both of them from the city [(Shomer HaDat there)].

The Rabbi, Rabbi Yisrael of Narbonne from Regensburg, an Ashkenazi, was a disputant of Maharik. Rabbi Yosef Chayon, Rabbi Avraham Chayon, Rabbi Yosef Frantzesh, Rabbi Yosef HaKastro, Rabbi Yitzchak ibn Zayita—all of these were great sages in Portugal in this generation.
