In the year 5233 there were heat waves and drought the likes of which had not been for a hundred years, and there was no rain all the days of summer, and all the rivers dried up and withered until they needed to bring water from many miles away to drink. And from the great heat there were many fires that could not be extinguished. And the winter after it was snow, ice and great cold—exceedingly—the likes of which had not been for 100 years, and many people and animals died.
