Rabbi Yehudah son of the prince Asher HaKadosh in Toledo [(authored Chukot Shamayim and Chukot HaTorah on laws, Shomer HaDat)] killed his wife, daughter of his brother, and his mother-in-law, wife of Rabbi Yaakov author of the Turim, at the time of the massacre, and he too was killed in the year 5151 [(Yuchsin in Seder HaDorot in the matter of Rabbi), and Shomer HaDat wrote letter 65, section 2 that he intended what is written in Yuchsin in the generations of the Acharonim that writes there the year 5119]. And many sages were killed including Rabbi Yitzchak ben Shoshen, and all of Catalonia and Castile and Aragon, and they rose up against the Jews and killed them, and the children converted—more than two hundred thousand Jews—and the sign of the year is "El Kana" (Jealous God).

And we have received that at that time Jews were taking non-Jewish women into their homes and they became pregnant and bore children. Behold, the gentiles who killed their fathers and destroyed them. And in this destruction came to Africa Rabbi Maimon bar Saadia Nabar in Constantinople and Rabbi Yitzchak Barfat and Rabbi Shimon Duran, [(Yuchsin in the generations of the Acharonim). It writes there the year 5155].

Rabbi Shimon Duran achieved greatly in authoring many books: Sefer Magen Avot which shows his strength in wisdoms and the Talmud, and he made a commentary on Iyov called Ohev Mishpat, and a book called Tashbetz meaning Teshuvot Rabbi Shimshon bar Tzemach, and a commentary on Azharot [(called Zohar HaRakia, these are 275, and some of it is brought in Sefer Ner Mitzvah)], and 15 small books and novellae and piyutim and derashot. And his son Rabbi Shlomo made Tikkun Sofrim and Milchemet Mitzvah [(Yuchsin in the generations of the Acharonim).

And Shomer HaDat wrote letter 51, section 2] Rashbatz was a student colleague of the Rivash in Algiers and there he is buried, and he was from the Duran family and due to his great wisdom they called him Rabbi Shimon HaGadol. And he authored Sefer Tashbetz, and I saw that he was called Rashba bar Tzadok, servant and student of Rabbi Meir HaKohen who authored Hagahot Maimoniyot [(see above year 5070)] and the Ralbag was his maternal grandfather.

Rabbi Shimon ben his son was a great sage among the exiles in the last exile that was in Spain in the year 5252 and he went to Turkey and died there. [Rabbi Shlomo bar Tzemach Duran, grandson of Tashbetz, authored Sefer Tiferet Yisrael, two comprehensive derashot from the seven wisdoms, and from him is Megillat Sefer, a commentary on Megillat Esther and Maamar Seudat Mitzvah.] At this time Don Yosef ibn Shoshen, a sage and elder, kabbalist and philosopher and pious man, as is seen in the responsa of the Rivash, section 157 [(Shomer HaDat there)]:
