**David Al-David** made himself a Messiah and persuaded the king of Persia and performed signs and wonders for the Jews and for the king the aforementioned [(and in Seder HaKabbalah chapter 45, page 72, one of his signs was that he healed a leper and the night became light)]. And as is written in the letter of the Rambam, the king asked from him a sign and he replied that they should cut off his head and he would return and live, and they said he did this so as not to be killed by harsh tortures.
And this was around the year 4894, and see Shevet Yehuda for the details of the story [(Tzeda LaDerech). See in Seder HaKabbalah which brings this and does not mention who he was, only that someone made himself a Messiah, but this is not David Al-David. And more investigation is needed for the book Shevet Yehuda is not in my hands now (see year 4935). It is written in the book of the travels of Binyamin] this one ten years ago, his name was David Al-Rui from Milidi, the city of Amaria.
He was a student of Rav Chasadai and Rabbi Ali Gaon Yaakov of Baghdad, and his learning was deep in Talmud and other books, and he spoke the Ishmaelite language well and knew the practice of sorcery well [and so it was. But his intention was about David mentioned in 4925 who was in the city of Amaria.] In the year 4894 there was great heat all the days of summer until rivers and streams dried up and many fires in the trees of the forest, and all grass and produce dried up.
And near the sun on two sides there was seen something like two suns, also lightnings, terrible thunderings, sounds of hail and fire catching in many places in Ashkenaz. And fire descended from heaven and consumed cities, from the tree of Speyer and Strasbourg their house of worship and other terrible buildings. And the city of Hall in Saxony was burned to the foundation, and other places. All these burnings were in one week [(Tzeda LaDerech chapter 72)].
