**Rabbi Baruch** bar Yitzchak ben Albali passed away in the year 4886. He was born on the first of Adar 4837 and received from his father Rabbi Yitzchak bar Baruch. And there was a great dispute between his father Rabbi Yitzchak and Rabbi Yitzchak Alfasi. And when his father passed away, Rabbi Baruch was about 17 years old.

And before his death, his father called him and whispered in his ear (for he could not speak audible words): "Go to Rav Yitzchak Alfasi and tell him that I am passing from this world and entering the World to Come, and I have already forgiven him for all the harsh words that he spoke to me in writing and orally. And also I beseech him to teach you, and I know that he will do you many favors and teach you with all his heart." And after I buried my father, my master, I went to Alisana and told him all the words that my father commanded me, and Rabbi Yitzchak Alfasi wept and cried greatly and embraced me and spoke to my heart, saying: "If your father died, I will be a father to you and you will be a son to me." And I stayed in his house until I learned before him all the Talmud.

And my teacher Rabbi Baruch knew all secular wisdom in addition to his Torah and wisdom, and he established many students. And he passed away at the end of Elul 4886. And after him, Rav Yosef HaLevi lived many days, about 15 years, and he has no equal in the world. And his generation is the second generation in rabbinics.

And when Rabbi Yitzchak Alfasi died, the fame of Rabbi Yosef HaLevi and Rabbi Baruch the aforementioned spread throughout the world [(Yuchsin at the end of Seder HaGeonim)].
