Rav Menachem Gaon, son of the honorable Rav Yosef Gaon, son of Rav Chiya, was made Rosh Yeshiva in Pumbedita in the year 4617. And in that same year, the son of Rav Mattisyahu son of Mar Rabbi was made Rosh Yeshiva in Pumbedita, and there were disputes and great quarrels between them. And Rav Menachem reigned for two years and died in 4619 [(Tzed"h)].
