Rav Achai bar Rav Huna became head of the academy in the year 4263 for 2 years and died [(in Adar)] in the year 4265. [And Rashbag wrote in Yuchsin: And also in that year Rav Rechumi died, and some interchange with Rav Rechumai. And in the year 917 (i.e., according to the Seleucid era, which is the year 4265) Rav Shmuel bar Yehuda died (and in Shir HaShirim it says bar Aba, and in Yuchsin in the order of Kabbalah it says bar Rava) from Pumbedita.
And in Adar, Ravina bar Amutzina died (and in Yuchsin there it says from Omutza) - all in the year 4265. Shir HaShirim, page 36, section 2 and page 68, section 2 writes: Rav Achai bar Huna in Pumbedita and Rav Eina in Sura around the year 4270, and Rav Achai reigned for about a year and died in 4274. And after him Rav Shmuel bar Aba, and he died in 4278. And after him Ravina the Second, and he died in 4310.
And then Rav Eina in Sura was head of the academy. And after them were their students of these, and their years were not mentioned because the academies were nullified due to the hatred of the kings of Persia and their persecution for 50 years, and the students could not establish a head of the academy over them until Rav Chanan of Iskiya arrived, who received from the elders and their students.]
