Nachman Katopa was born in the year 4245. [In Shir HaShirim, page 46, section 2, it says:] And I saw in Kontres about 20 [lines], and these are his words, esteemed and honored. The scholars of Barcelona wrote to the great Rabbi, our master Rav David, grandson of the Rambam, to entreat his face to inform us if he found with him something in the secret of the End, and to answer their face and to send them the account from the birth of the wonderful young child, his delights and the prophecies which he prophesied, and at the end of each prophecy a bit of explanation.
And according to what appears from the Rabbi, our master Rav David, he cursed and excommunicated anyone who would reveal this secret to the unworthy. And it is proper to be careful of his illness lest one be burned, and to keep a secret in that which contains it, for the curse of a sage - even more so his great piety and the greatness of his knowledge and the glory of his greatness. And as it was proper and a commandment for those who say from a holy seed, from the children of that righteous one, the great teacher of righteousness whose deeds praise him in the gates and for whose Torah eyes shall hope.
And the reason he forbade revealing [the secret] is that in some matters the things are certain and in some silence is becoming, therefore. And it is proper that you know that this matter was briefly: In the year approximately 4245 and approximately 405 [(420 after the destruction of the Second Temple, as written)] after the destruction [(the calculation is not exact, for 405 after the destruction would be the year 4232, and it is easy to understand)], there was Rabbi Pinchas, a great and holy pious man, and he had Rachel for a wife, a pious daughter, and she was barren.
And they prayed to HaShem and He was entreated by them and she conceived. And in the seventh month of her pregnancy [(on the second day)] on Thursday at dawn, when the constellation Tzedek (Jupiter) was rising and the scales were in the east, on the day of Rosh Hashanah, the sixth year of the Shemittah cycle, in that year this wonderful child was born, and they called him Nachman. And immediately when he was born, he began to speak wonders and the Chariot mysteries, and the world called him Nachman Katopa from the phrase "like anger" and he died at age 12 years. [And I saw in the index of Yochanan Chatufa (perhaps a scribal error and it should say Nachman Katopa) he is buried in the village of Bara, and close to "like anger" or Bara both are scribal errors.
And in Siftei Yeshenim, letter Nun, it is written: The prophecies of Nachman Katopa bar Pinchas - he was born and immediately became a prophet, and died immediately. Rabbi Avraham HaLevi the Elder composed it (in Jerusalem in the year 4276, Shir HaShirim page 46, section 2) together with Rabbi Shmuel the Prophet, end of quote.] And at the end of his days, he prophesied great prophecies about the redemption, and these things were written and they are sealed, hidden, and very deep in various languages - Yerushalmi, Bavli, Aramaic - and mixed and changing words very deep in metaphor and riddle, and the commentators were unable to understand even a small part of them.
And this Rabbi Avraham the commentator says that in the year 5289 there was a conjunction between Saturn and Jupiter as it was when Israel entered the Land in the days of Yehoshua and also when Ezra went up with the Exile to Jerusalem. And this commentator said that he asked in a dream when is the End of wonders, and they answered him "from the asking and secrets." Also in his dream he asked this, and they answered him "Is it not hidden with Me?" And he says that these prophecies were found in a certain ruin in the Lower Galilee in the city of Tiberias, written on old scrolls and rolled inside a lead vessel.
