Third Generation of Amoraim
Year 4060 of the Jewish calendar.
Rav Yehuda died in the year 4060 [(see above year 3990)] son of Rabbi Yochanan [(see there and see above year 4039 and year 4070)].
Rabbah bar Nachmani became head [(according to Yuchsin)] in Pumbedita after the death of Rav Yehuda in the year 4060 [(and Shir HaShirim, page 35, section 2 and 18, section 2 writes 4050)], and he was then 18 years old, and he reigned for 22 years, and died at age 40 [(Tzemach David). And Rashbag wrote in Yuchsin that he died in the year 630 (which is the year 4069)]. Rabbah bar Chiyya was teaching Torah in Sura all the years that Rabbah bar Nachmani was in Pumbedita [(Rashbag, Yuchsin)].
Rav Huna died in the year 4060 [(see above year 4010)].
Rav Chisda became head after the death of Rav Huna in Sura in the year 4060 [(Tzemach David)].
Rav Ami and Rav Asi were heads of the academies in the Land of Israel after the death of Rabbi Yochanan, and they were in Tiberias in the year 4060 [(Yuchsin, in the order of Amoraim according to their times, see there)].
Rabbi Yehuda Nesia the Amora, son of Rabban Gamliel the son of our Holy Rabbi, was around this time [(see above)], and there was another Rabbi Yehuda Nesia, his grandson [(see there)].
