Rabbi Yochanan died in the year 4039 according to the Raavad and Rashbag [(but there is confusion about this, see above year 3990 and year 4006 and year 4070). Rashbag wrote in Yuchsin that in the year 590 according to the Seleucid era, Rabbi Yochanan and Rabbi Elazar died in the same month, and Rav Ami reigned. It appears that then Abaye was born, see above year 4055].
