**Rabban Shimon** the Third son of Rabban Gamliel the Second [(also called Rabban Gamliel of Yavneh)], father of Rabbi Yehudah HaNasi, became Nasi around year 3880. According to Abarbanel he was the 12th generation of the scholars of the Mishnah and the 39th receiver of traditions [(Tzeda), (and according to Yuchsin the 35th receiver, and according to the Rambam the 33rd receiver)].
**Rabbi Meir** was a student of Rabbi Akiva and was appointed together with Rabban Shimon mentioned above to [study from] Rabbi Yehoshua in the days of Rabbi Akiva [(Seder Me'orot Einayim in his introduction, third generation after the destruction - Rabbi Meir and Rabbi Natan)].
