**Second generation after the destruction:**

**Rabbi Akiva** ben Yosef [(see year 3760)] was the leader after the death of Rabban Gamliel of Yavneh in year 3840 [(Tzeda)], the 32nd receiver according to the Rambam (see Sha'ar HaDorot sections 28 and 58 - Rabbi Akiva received from Rabban Gamliel in year 3860, about 52 years after the destruction. There is a typographical error here, for he was born in 3760 and became leader in 3840 and was killed in 3880, which was 52 years after the destruction).

Rabbi Tarfon the Kohen, who was wealthy, was the teacher or colleague of Rabbi Akiva [(see there), and Seder Me'orot Einayim wrote in the introduction: second generation after the destruction - Rabbi Tarfon, Rabbi Akiva, Rabbi Eliezer HaModa'i, and Rabbi Amidah]. Rabbi Yishmael was a colleague of Rabbi Akiva [(see there). Rabbi Chanina ben Antigonos was in the time of Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Yishmael].

Rabbi Yehoshua ben Korcha was the teacher of Rabbeinu HaKadosh and lived a long life. Rabbi El'azar ben Chisma and Rabbi Yochanan ben Gudgeda were in the time of Rabbi Akiva. Yehudah ben Teima was also in the days of Rabbi Akiva [(Tzeda)].

**Onkelos the Convert** was alive in the days of Rabbi Eliezer and Rabbi Yehoshua [(which was then year 3868, Sha'ar HaDorot section 28)], and one was in the days of Hillel and Shammai [(Tzeda, see there)]. Aquilas the Convert was in the days of Rabbi Eliezer and Rabbi Yehoshua [(see there, see year 3888)].
