**Julius** was born after his mother's death, for she had difficulty in childbirth and they cut her belly and brought him out alive through her side. And because of this they called him Caesar, in the Roman language meaning 'cutting' and 'severing' [(see Tosafot Avodah Zarah chapter 1)]. And after many days he became Caesar of Rome (see below year 3712). And this was in the days of Yochanan called Hyrkanos the first, and he was a mighty warrior and a man of war, there was none like him from the day man was created.
From his youth his mother raised him to learn all wisdom, and all that he did prospered. And he became general for the Romans and conquered many lands, and in the fifty battles he waged he killed 1,192,000 souls. And he was full of all wisdom, the wisdom of numbers and astronomy. And he loved Israel and did justice and righteousness.
And when he became arrogant and did not show honor to the elders of Rome, they agreed to kill him and they made 22 wounds in him [(year 3718)] in the 6th year of his reign.
And the days of his life were 56 years [(see above year 3757)] and some say only 22 years. [(Thus he was killed in year 3685)] Tzeda chapter 2.
