**Demetrius Soter** son of Seleucus Philippos, the uncle of Antiochus, reigned in year 3628. He sent his general Nikanor [(and this requires investigation for he was killed in year 3622)] against the Yehudim, but King Yehudah struck him down with 32,000 by the sword. And then he showed great honor to the Temple in the days of Yonatan and forgave the Yehudim the tax that was assessed each year of 10,000 shekels, and he donated each year 15,000 shekels of silver and gold to buy sacrifices.

And any man who would flee to the Temple could not be seized, even if he owed the king. And if the Temple needed any repair, he wanted it done from his own funds [(Tzeda chapter 2)]. At the end of the days of King Yehudah, Bakchirus the general of the Macedonians came up against him, and Yehudah killed 15,000 of them but he himself fell in that battle in the 6th year of his reign. And all Israel wept for him, and it was a time of distress for the Yehudim such as there had not been for about 5 months until Yonatan reigned [(Tzeda)].

**Yonatan his brother** was the 3rd king of the Chashmona'im, he reigned in year 3628 for 6 years [(and some say 19 years, Yuchsin in Seder HaDorot and in Ma'amar 5 section 6 and Sha'ar HaDorot 25)]. And Antiochus Sirot came up against him, but Shimon his brother and his sons struck down all his people. And Antiochus alone with his 2 sons fled. And Israel dwelt securely, each man under his vine and fig tree, all the days of Yehonatan.

And he died old and full of days, in goodness and favor [(Tzeda)].
