**Evil-Merodach** (Avil-Merodach) son of Nevuchadnetzar became the 48th king in Bavel after his father's death. In year 3364, the 37th year of the exile of Yehoyakhin, Evil-Merodach reigned for 22 years [(25 in Megillah 11b and Seder section 28 and section 27) and Ra'avad and Yuchsin in Seder HaKabbalah that the Rama'h copied, it says 23 (Ruach Sha'ar HaDorot)]. And he was the first among the recipients of tradition who was not from the seed of Yehudah [and in Megillah (Sha'ar HaDorot) he was placed among the first as this is the place for kings in the tradition, and his name was also written above in year 3338].

And he was a wicked king; not only was he not a proper vessel for tradition, but in the days of his kingdom the remnant was exiled from Bavel to various places, seven thousand among them being craftsmen. And Yehoyakhin the king is listed among the receivers because he was in the period of tradition, and in Seder Olam it says he was among the righteous who were in Bavel at that time - Yehoyakhin and Daniel and his companions and Mordekhai - and all of them received the tradition.
