And it came to pass in the one hundred and twenty-fifth year after their descent to Egypt [this is year 2363] that the elders of Egypt and its wise men went before Pharaoh and said, "Behold, we have done as you advised us, but the more we afflict them with labor, the more they multiply and spread. Now, our lord the king, it is upon you to give counsel in your wisdom that can prevail over Israel to destroy them and diminish them." And the king answered, "Give counsel and let us know what to do." And one of the king's eunuchs answered - his name was Iyov from the land of Naharayim, from the land of Utz, etc. [see year 2368 and year 2448] - "If it please the king, let a royal decree go forth from before him and let it be written in the laws of Egypt that every male child born to the Hebrews shall have his blood spilled, and the evils of their wars shall cease from upon us," etc.

And Pharaoh sent and called the midwives, etc. [Sefer HaYashar. In Sotah 11b, the midwives Shifrah and Puah were Yocheved and her daughter Miriam. So it appears that the older one was Miriam, to be a midwife at the time of the decree "if it is a son, then he shall die." And in Sefer HaYashar it is written that the decree "if it is a son" was in the one hundred and twenty-fifth year after their descent to Egypt.

And Amram took Yocheved one hundred and twenty-six years after their descent and she bore Miriam. (And see Midrash Yehoshua section 2, note 9, that Shifrah and Puah were converts.)]
