Yaakov was blessed in Year 2171 at age sixty-three, and Yitzchak was one hundred twenty-two years old. And he fled to the house of Ever son of Shem [(see Year 2084 that he was the son of Shem's son's son)] because of his brother Esav. And he hid there for fourteen years and learned the ways of HaShem and His commandments until Year 2184. [In Shir HaShirim Rabbah chapter 96, in Nisan Yaakov was blessed.

In the Zohar on Parshat Toldot, the Holy One, Blessed be He, did not want to reveal to Yitzchak the wickedness of Esav so that Yaakov would be blessed by him without his knowledge. And this is because since Yitzchak was entirely a burnt offering, he could not bless except from the good of the land, and also not from his own (Seder HaKabbalah section 9, 1).]

**When** Esav saw that Yaakov had fled, he was very grieved and became angry at his father and mother. He rose up and took his wife and went to Seir, and there he saw a woman from the daughters of Heth named Basmat daughter of Elon the Hittite, and he took her in addition to his wife and called her name Adah, saying "the blessing has passed from me." He dwelt in the land of Seir for six months and did not see his father and mother.

Afterwards he went with his wives to Hebron, and his wives were provoking and angering Yitzchak and Rivkah with their deeds, serving the gods of their fathers - wood and stone - and acting wickedly from their fathers and burning incense to the Baalim. In those days Adah bore to Esav a son and he called his name Eliphaz, and Esav was sixty-five years old when he was born [(Sefer HaYashar) (this appears to be an error; it should be 62 years, for nearby it states that Yishmael son of Avraham died in those days, and Yishmael's lifespan was 137 years and he was born in Year 2034, so his life ended in Year 2171, and then Yaakov was 62 years old.

Thus Eliphaz was born in Year 2171, so what is written in Sefer HaYashar that Yishmael died in those days in the 65th year of Yaakov is an error)]

**Yishmael** died in those days, in the 65th year of Yaakov [(see above that this is an error; it should be 62 years of Yaakov, which is Year 2171)]. Yitzchak mourned for him and grieved many days. After 14 years that Yaakov was in the house of Ever, Yaakov came to his father and mother's house in Hebron [(see Chait, section 200 and Yitzah)] after being 14 years in the house of Shem and Ever. He returned to Be'er Sheva and from there went to Haran on the second day [(the word "Shem" is an error, for Shem had already died, see above Year 2158)].

Esav remembered what Yaakov had done to him and sought to kill him, etc. Rivkah said to Yaakov, "Arise, flee to Haran, to Lavan my brother," and she commanded him not to forget the commandments of HaShem, etc., and not to take a wife from the daughters of Canaan, etc. She gave him silver and gold and many gifts and sent him away [(Sefer HaYashar)].
